You moved in, met people, and started classes at King’s. Today we have four questions for reflection to help you consider where you’re at and where you’re going.

At the close of your first full week of classes, you probably have a lot to process. You’ve just started at a new school, met lots of new people, started a new academic semester, and you’re likely still getting settled into your new apartment. A lot has changed in the last two weeks. Moving can be stressful alone, but you’re starting fresh in many ways– and in a context that requires quite a bit of careful reading.

So we have a suggestion.

Plan to go somewhere interesting this weekend. It’s a long weekend, so you have ample time. (The College is closed on Monday for Labor Day.) Consider where you should go. Maybe the Met, or Central Park. Or find a coffee shop outside your neighborhood. Really think about where you want to go. Make a plan, and go. And don’t get bogged down if you have to adjust the plan as you go. That’s life in New York City, right?

When you get to your place, consider that you’ve just made a bold and exciting decision. You chose to enroll at The King’s College, and with the help of your parents and family, you’re here. You’re really doing it. This is the life you get to live now. And you’re not alone. You came to King’s, where you’ve probably already met some intriguing and kindred friends, and you have faculty and staff who care about you too.

Here you are, in New York City, at The King’s College. You’re getting started. And as you do, consider these questions:

  1. Why did you choose King’s, and how have you experienced that in the last week?
  2. What do you know now that you didn’t know two weeks ago?
  3. Who do you appreciate now that you didn’t know two weeks ago?
  4. What are you hoping for this semester, and how will you get there?

Consider these questions, and perhaps have a conversation with a friend about why you’re here and where you’re going. Journal your answers, or use these questions to ask a friend. And as always, we in Student Success would love to talk with you about your answers to these questions. Feel free to reach out to us, or to your House Advisor or a professor, to continue finding your place at King’s. We’re glad you’re here.
