Ellen, it has been such a joy to work with you in so many capacities at King’s — from that very first semester of College Writing, to Shakespeare (and your truly) dramatic performance of Falstaff in the Battle of Shrewsbury, to that hybrid section of Classical Lit in the City Room, to FA work this academic year. Notes for Ellen

Ellen, thanks for all the work you did on the English newsletter, and for being such a tireless advocate for the major! It was great to have you in so many literature classes over the years, and especially to see your creative writing this semester in the fiction workshop and your senior thesis. I hope you’ll keep it up! Best of luck in the publishing world, or wherever the future takes you next.

Ellen- I’m so glad we got to work together last year! I loved getting to know you. Thank you for your committment to King’s in so many ways! You served well. Thanks and congrats on graduation!

Ellen, congratulations on graduating! It was an absolute joy having you in class this past semester. I frequently saw you compliment other students for their good comments in class, and it warmed my heart knowing that you took these conversations as seriously as I do. Thank you. Let me know when you read Someone by Alice McDermott.

Ellen, congrats on your graduation! Running into you around campus was always a joy–you will be missed! May God surprise you in the best way during this new chapter of life–wishing you all the best!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33)

Ellen! Thank you for letting me recruit you all those years ago, and for taking a chance on a new life in NYC. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors and this new chapter. You will be successful in whatever you may do!

Ellen,
It’s still so funny to me that we worked together so much during the time that you led Interregnum and only met for the first time after it was all over! It was so great to work with you.
You are a shining star, incredibly humble and sweet. I could see these qualities all the way through our time working together.
So happy to see you married now and graduating! I pray the blessings continue to pour over!

Jeremiah 29:11

I am so proud of how you have tackled this last year with grace, kindness and all the great qualities you possess. You will always have a spot atop the 9L heater.

Ellen

ELLEN, I’m internally screaming with joy as I type this. You are such a great human! From your open heart to your powerful writing, you are a phenomenal woman. I’m so glad to know you!

Ellen! you are one of my sweetest friends and I couldn’t be more thankful to have met you! I will always appreciate all the times we “studied” together, your consistent hospitality, and you always giving me a listening ear, wise advice, and a place to rest. You are gonna do big and beautiful things and I can’t wait to be one of your biggest cheerleaders! CONGRATS!!!

Ellen, Congratulations on finishing well! Life has brought about some significant changes since when I first met you, but I’m sure that your kindess and virtue -that were so evident then- have only become stronger. Your life gives evidence!

Ellen!
Congrats on graduating!
Ever since I got here you have made me feel so welcomed, and I thank you for that.
Good luck on everything!!

Ellen, you are a rockstar. I have been blessed to be a part of your King’s journey and I know mine wouldn’t have been the same without you. You bring light to those around you. ❤️❤️ Congratulations!

Congratulations Ellen! I love you so dearly. I am so thankful to have you in my life, even when it’s once a week in a Campbell class. You are such a joy, such a light, such a true friend.

When you look up “distinguished” in the dictionary, there is just a picture of Ellen Scott. You are the most put together person I’ve ever met, it immensely impresses me. You are just so level-headed and driven. You are an immensely talented writer and scholar. It has been so wonderful to get to know you. Wishing you all the best!

My sweet Ellen,
WOW. How’d this happen? I still feel like that little awkward girl eating dunkin’ donuts on the patio with you. I don’t think I could have survived the last four years without you. You were the best roommate I could have asked for and you’ve stayed the best friend I could have asked for. Watching you grow over the last four years has been the greatest experience. I know you’re going to take on this city with your beautiful words. I cant wait to watch. Congratulations!! We did it!!
Love you forever, Ken

Dear Ellen,

Hope to continue to see you, and I’m glad you’re sticking around in ny/bk!

I’ve watched your journey through social media and cheered you on from the sidelines. I’m so proud of all the effort you have given to this milestone in your life and I hope you’re proud too. Celebrate with all the champagne and comfort foods!

Love,
— MH
